Why is it still considered the best flying style? First, look at the design. The aviator was originally designed to give military pilots the best possible eye protection in the sky. Both the teardrop shape and the more rectangular aviator shape have larger lenses that provide full coverage of the pilot’s eye socket. Also, the design keeps the lens close to the face so the visor can be easily raised or lowered. Even the bayonet mounts were originally designed so that the pilot could put on and take off his goggles without having to remove his helmet or headset. While the original Aviators usually came with green tinted or AGX lenses, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) now recommends gray lenses because they allow for more natural colors. All these elements have made aviator a preferred choice for amateur and professional pilots.

25 years later, he sits in the cockpit of the beautiful static display of the F-15SG fighter, welcoming perhaps the next generation of recruits.
Sitting in the F-15SG display cockpit, Zane was confident and experienced; however, the 31-year-old pilot could have taken a very different career if it were not for a recruitment call that happened while he was at the polytechnic.
Zane already believed that becoming a pilot required perfect eyesight. His short-sightedness became the determining factor that prevented him from pursuing his dreams.

As a result, he did not try to join the Singapore Youth Flying Club, nor did he think of joining the Air Force.
“I wore glasses! I had a diploma for my vision – 300 degrees “, shares Zane. “I did not know at this point that as long as we are below 500 degrees, we can actually register to be a pilot.”
It wasn’t until the RSAF recruiting officers visited his school that Zane realized that even with a degree, he could still apply to become a pilot. After a rigorous series of tests and corrective eye surgery provided by the RSAF, Zane finally achieved his dream.
Since joining the Air Force in 2013, Zane has trained for a decade. This year he finally closed the loop and took part in the air show – the show that made him want to become a pilot.

It’s been seven years since the audience enjoyed the show, and this year’s edition will be even more special, especially for Zayn.
The Air Capability Display will showcase the launch of the F-15SG fighter jet and feature a series of high-octane pilot maneuvers. Part of the show will even simulate a real mission where planes escort a merchant ship with a suspected bomb threat on board.
Zane said: “This is real because in 2019 I was actually part of the crew that tried to intercept Scoot flight TR285 to return to land in Changi due to a bomb hoax on board. “There was no time for nerves as within minutes of the call we had to be in the air and in an escort position,” he added.

Located in several professional stands in Exhibition Halls 2 and 3, these simulators offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to try your hand at piloting a fighter jet, refueling or launching a plane for some arcade-like fun.
In addition to the F-15 and F-16 displays, the event features static displays for 16 other assets in the RSAF fleet for some epic photo opportunities.

Best Pilot Sunglasses
The Navy conducts eye exams on all recruits, and the vision requirements are even stricter for those who want to become naval pilots.
The eye doctor takes into account field of vision, color vision, distance visual acuity, near visual acuity and depth perception.
Although good vision is preferred, you can still become a Navy pilot if you wear glasses or contact lenses.
According to the Navy, all pilot and copilot personnel must have better than 20/100 uncorrected distance vision in each eye. Distance vision should be corrected to 20/20.
