Clinical Laboratory Science Online Program
Yes! A separate program is required for this specialty. Admission to MLT to MLS/MT programs is competitive. The minimum GPA required to apply is 2.75. All applicants must have successfully completed a NAACLS-accredited MLT program from a regionally accredited college or university. MLT coursework must transfer to credits. Applicants must meet all technical standards required for the program and have at least two years of full-time work experience (at least 4,000 work hours) as a state-certified MLT in an accredited human diagnostic laboratory. MLT to MLS/MT is an 11-month lock-in program that begins in August and ends in July. You may be required to complete prerequisite courses before you are admitted to the program. If so, you’ll find hundreds of class offerings online.
Clinical Laboratory Science
Applying for the MLT to MLS program is a separate process from admission to Austin Peay State University. We only accept program applications through the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS) web portal, which can be accessed via the button below. Paper applications will no longer be accepted and processed.
Applications will be accepted from October 1 to February 1 each year for the program beginning next fall. Students will be notified of their status in early May. Admitted students must then apply to Austin Peay State University as a transfer student. Students will be notified of missing prerequisite courses upon admission to the University. Acceptance to the full program is contingent upon admission to the university, submission of all required courses, and completion of all prerequisites.
Applications are due on February 1 of each year for programs starting in August of the following year. It is the applicant’s responsibility to mark “verified” on their AHCAS application prior to the February 1 deadline. The AHCAS verification process can take up to one month. Incomplete and late applications (those not verified by February 1) will not be considered. Applications are not stored for subsequent years. Applicants must reapply to be considered in future years.
Only applicants who have completed the program application process (applications marked as “verified” by AHCAS) on or before February 1st will receive notification. Most application decisions will be made in March and April and notification will be sent by email to the address used on the AHCAS application. All application notification emails will be sent by May 1. Applicants are responsible for monitoring their email, including their junk and junk folders, for MLS program notifications. Admission is always contingent upon completion of all required prerequisites prior to the start of the fall semester.

Note: The only prerequisite courses required of MLT professionals holding a bachelor’s degree are US/World History I and II (six semester credit hours), College Algebra, A&P I and II lecture and laboratory, and General Chemistry I and II. II Lecture and Laboratory.
All prerequisite courses (except chemistry prerequisites) are available online, making it easy to meet any missing general education core course requirements.
Prospective students who wish to receive counseling prior to applying to the MLT to MLS program must apply to Austin Peay State University as a transfer student. After you have been accepted to Austin Peay State University, please log into your Onestop account and verify that all of your transfer credits appear in the Onestop transfer evaluation. If any courses or transcripts are missing, you will need to contact our admissions office. Teaching In University Science Laboratories (developing Best Practice)
Students in our program complete two courses every eight weeks, plus two courses during our summer semester for a total of ten courses (30 semester credit hours). The curriculum includes molecular diagnostics, clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, laboratory management, urinalysis/body fluids, parasitology/mycology/virology, bacteriology and BOC review courses. All students complete the program as a cohort and must be enrolled full-time. Please see the Clarksville University Academic Calendar for semester dates.
Tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year will be approximately $15,900 for out-of-state students (e-rate) or $10,620 in-state* (Tuition rates are subject to change.) Tuition is paid per semester and in installments. Plans are available. Students can calculate tuition for our programs using the online Student Account Service and the Bursar’s Office (formerly the Bursar’s Office) Tuition and Fee Schedule. Twelve hours are completed in autumn and 12 hours in spring. Six hours are completed in summer. Tuition is offered in every semester. Additional costs will be applied for missing prerequisite courses based on the tuition and fee schedule.
