Enlisting As An Officer In The Air Force – If you listen to their stories, you might hear, “I was drafted” or “I was an army officer.” Veterans are often faced with a quick “thank you for your service” because many people have no idea what these terms mean.
What if you have no military experience? Understanding the role of military personnel can be difficult to figure out on your own.
Enlisting As An Officer In The Air Force
Before we continue, we should note that there are three types of officers: Officer, NCO (NCO) and Warrant Officer (WO).

The joining process for enlisted members usually involves speaking with a recruiter, taking a military entrance exam, taking an oath of enlistment, and attending some type of training, such as basic training or technology training to prepare for the job.
On the other hand, the process for commissioned officers involves obtaining a college degree through the ROTC program or attending a US service academy. Other options include first earning a four-year college degree and attending officer training school to earn a direct commission.
The main difference between an officer and an enlisted man is that officers are commissioned into service by the President of the United States.
Have you ever witnessed an oath ceremony or seen some people raise their right hand to serve in the military and take the oath?

The oath of a military candidate versus an officer candidate is also different. Since the papers carry different obligations, there is an oath for both parties.
In the enlistment oath, we can clearly see that enlisted members are bound to obey the President of the United States and the leadership of military officers.
Now let’s start with the basics: military rank. You think this is the best way to climb the military career ladder.
Military rank is an organizational system that demonstrates authority and responsibility within the United States Armed Forces. Here are two ways to identify the range:
Air Force Officer Ranks
The pay grade for military men and women can range from E-1 to E-9. Officer pay grades can range from O-1 to O-10. “E” stands for Enlisted and O stands for Officer. The higher the rank or pay grade, the higher the income.
Officers are paid more than the equivalent military rank. For example, an O-4 (officer) will make more money than an E-4 (enlisted).
Rank and pay grade also determine the amount of benefits a member is entitled to, such as housing allowance and education benefits.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Military Career Predictions Handbook, enlisted members make up 82% of the armed forces and conduct military operations.

You may hear that officers give orders, provide leadership, management and direction. Others say that soldiers are the backbone of an army because they are the ones who execute or carry out orders.
At the end of the day, officers and enlisted men work closely together to accomplish the goals and missions of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
Another difference you may not have noticed is how the military behaves on a day-to-day basis. In the civilian world, you can address people as Mr., Mrs., or Mrs., but the military works its way.
For example, many members of the military are often addressed by their rank combined with their last name. If you are a colonel and your last name is Smith, you will be greeted as Colonel Smith.

But when answering a question or agreeing, military personnel address officers as sir or madam. Sir or Madam is used at your discretion as a civilian. But in the military, it’s practically a requirement that you show respect for your rank.
Finally, when military members approach officers, they should either give the officer a hand salute or stand at attention out of respect for rank.
This military custom and courtesy varies according to place and circumstances. Note that military ranks do not salute each other.
While each role comes together to support and defend the freedoms we are privileged to have, knowing the difference can help you understand how each moving part of the military works.
