A Border Patrol Agent (BPA) is a law enforcement officer who enforces federal laws when people or goods travel into the United States. They operate along the borders of Mexico and Canada as well as the coastal waters of Puerto Rico and Florida to facilitate the flow of legal trade. Border Patrol agents are also responsible for preventing illegal immigration and protecting Americans from human trafficking, drug trafficking, terrorism, and agricultural pests. Border Patrol agents work for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
