COMPLETE MEDICAL LAB ASSISTANT TRAINING You will need college level training to start this career. Fortunately, training for medical laboratory assistants does not take much time. GET CERTIFIED BY CSMLS The next step in becoming a medical laboratory assistant is to become certified by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS). Certification is not required to operate as a medical laboratory in Manitoba. But many employers prefer to hire candidates who have it. The certification exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions and takes 2.5 hours to complete. If you don’t pass the first time, you may have two more attempts.
