Mental Health Counselor Education Requirements – The Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling offers the same courses as the CACREP-accredited master’s program on campus. Built on authentic skills and expertise gained from experienced faculty, our courses combine academic rigor with programmatic flexibility. After earning your degree, you will be ready to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin and in many other states.

To introduce you to the learning platform, Desire Learning (D2L), you must complete 0 credit hours, as soon as possible. This required course will be available before the program begins and will help you understand the tools and resources available to you at D2L.

Choosing A Counseling Degree? Consider A Dual Degree Program Before You Enroll

Most training courses can be completed independently of your schedule, but our program includes three courses with synchronous sessions. In addition, every week, students and teachers meet to discuss and develop counseling skills, including live feedback and role play.

To integrate teaching and practice, all counseling students complete one internship course and two internship courses at an organization, clinic or other health care facility in the community. Working alongside faculty and on-site mentors, students will have strong support as they gain confidence in the field.

Students pursuing child and adolescent counseling skills will take 15 counseling courses, one technical course, one elective, and complete an internship and internship in an area focused on youth therapy.

Counseling students are required to complete all internships and internships during the program. These opportunities provide students with hands-on experience in assessment, evaluation, intervention, prevention and investigation.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling (ms) Degree Requirements

Explore the theories that underlie various research methods and research methods. Methods of needs assessment and program evaluation are considered. Students’ knowledge and skills in selecting, applying and interpreting standardized tests, essays and selected assessment forms. Strategies for assessing intelligence, achievement, personality, career interests and mental health problems are covered as is the use of clinical interviews to identify client problems. Prerequisite: COUN 6003

It examines theoretical approaches to career counseling and planning, as well as ideological, social and cultural factors influencing career/lifelong career development. Aspects of career development programs and services are considered, as well as sources and uses of career and educational information. Prerequisite: COUN 6003

Clinical Supervision For Mental Health Counselor Interns — Lifescape Counseling Services, Llc

It examines the evaluation of advanced instruction, treatment planning and intervention techniques based on evidence-based practice. Students learn how to use structured interviews for diagnosis, engage in differential diagnosis and develop treatment plans. Supervised instructional practicum experience requires a minimum of 100 hours (including 40 hands-on hours) and leads to the development of instructional skills. Students are placed in programs that provide clinical training that complements psychotherapy programs or are specific to their specialty (child-adolescent counseling). Internships focus on clinical mental health counseling practice and professional issues relevant to each specialty.
