After you speak with a recruiter, you will schedule a date to visit a Military Document Processing Station (MEPS) to complete the registration process.

MEPS is a joint service organization that determines the applicant’s physical skills, abilities and moral standards as established by each branch of the military. There are MEPS locations across the country.

MEPS is where applicants enter the Armed Forces, and we are responsible for ensuring quality entry into the Armed Forces, both in peacetime and on mobilization. When we’re done, you’ll go to the doctors. You’re going to get a medical report and you’re going to go through that process, right? After completing the training, you will receive an exam. Narrator: Military Recruiting Stations, or MEPs, are where applicants for military service go to complete the enlistment process. MEPs ensure that all applicants meet the ability, physical and behavioral standards set by the Ministry of Defense and the services.

The government pays for accommodation for all military applicants preparing to go through the ASE procedure. Hotel staff explain what to expect the next day, including rules of conduct and a list of prohibited items that cannot be brought to the European Parliament.

Some MEPs process up to one hundred and fifty applications in one day. Name tags must be worn in a visible place before leaving.

It is important for all applicants to be alert and follow instructions throughout the day. Biometrics, including the applicant’s photograph and fingerprints, are taken early in the afternoon and will be used each time the applicant checks in or out of the station. Candidates must register and pay at each station to ensure they are in the correct location at the expected time.

All applicants must take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB test. The ASVAB is an intensive series of aptitude tests that help determine which military job a person is best suited for. Some candidates may have taken the ASVAB in the afternoon the previous day or even earlier at a satellite testing location near their home. The ASVAB measures reading comprehension and math skills, as well as electronics, science and mechanical knowledge. It takes up to three hours. Applicants may also be required to take special tests to help the military determine the best fit for a particular job.

The next step is a medical examination. The tests will include a full physical examination on urine, HIV, pregnancy, drugs and alcohol, an ortho-neuro exam which tests balance and co-ordination, and hearing and vision tests.
